Filing Period For City, School Elections Has Now Closed

(Undated)– Spirit Lake will have a new Mayor following the November 7th election. Incumbent Bruce Keenan didn’t file for re-election. Kevin Bice, who currently serves on the city council, and Nate Vortherms will be vying for the position. The deadline for filing papers has since passed. Five people are running for three open seats on the Spirit Lake City Council. Incumbents Keith Brockmeyer and Jerry Harbst face competition from David Mensing, Brett Johnson and Kent Baschke.

In Arnolds Park, four people will square off for three open seats on the city council. Incumbents John Adams, Jason Christensen and James Jensen face a challenge from Mike Koppert. Incumbent Jim Hussong will be unopposed for Mayor.

In Milford, Steve Anderson is unopposed for Mayor. Incumbent Shane Hoffman, Kyle Mohni, and Derek Schwery are running for two open city council seats while Dave Worshek is running to fill a vacancy.

In Orleans, incumbent Bill Maas is unopposed for Mayor. Four people are running for two city council seats. Incumbents Terry Wilts and Kristine Hoss will be challenged by Dean Madagan and Peggy Rick.

There will be a race for Mayor in Terril where incumbent Julie Thiesen is being challenged by Mollie Petersen.

In West Okoboji, Mike Olson, Paul Sieh, Robert Hein and Teresa Schoelerman are running three seats on the city council. Craig Miner is unopposed for Mayor.

There are no contested races for either Mayor or City Council in Lake Park, Okoboji, Superior and Wahpeton.

Multiple people are seeking positions on the Okoboji and Spirit Lake School Boards. In the Okoboji district, John Klopstad, Allison Antoine, Jeanne Fisher, Brian Hinshaw, Joe Kennedy, Amanda Plathe and Ryan Schmidt are all running for three open seats. In Spirit Lake, Teresa Beck, Greta Gruys, Linda Moore, Jeromy Mouw and Tyler Alger are running for three open seats. Sonja Hamm, Michelle Goodenow, Mieke Stecker and Yvonne Taylor are running for two vacancies. There are no contested races for the Harris-Lake Park School Board.
