(Algona)– A fiery crash of two semis Friday morning in a rural area southwest of Algona claimed a life.
The Iowa State Patrol says 49-year-old Chad Bjork of Albert City was driving a 2000 Freightliner southbound and was approaching an intersection when he failed to yield and collided with an eastbound 2006 Peterbilt driven by 48-year-old Alan Schuler of Thompson. Both semis came to rest in the south ditch where they caught on fire and were completely destroyed.
Schuler was pronounced dead at the scene; Bjork was taken to a Mason City hospital by air.
Troopers say neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
