Field Fire West Of Milford Burns About 30 Acres

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A field fire late Monday afternoon west of Milford burned about 30 acres of corn stubble.

Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says firefighters were called to a field near 1557 220th Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. He says firefighters had to battle extremely dry conditions and wind gusting to over 30 mph. Several farmers with discs assisted by creating fire breaks, finally allowing firefighters to get an upper hand on the situation. They remained on the scene until shortly after 6:00 p.m. putting out hotspots.

There was word on a probable cause.

Carpenter reminds anyone doing any work out in the open that could create a spark to have a means of extinguishment and to know an escape route. He says should you happen to start a fire to not hesitate to contact your local fire department. Carpenter says they’d rather put out a small fire than a large one that could also result in injury.
