Fiber To The Premise Coming To Another Area Town

June 23, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Everly)– Fiber optic service is being extended to another community in the area. Chris Dodd, Assistant General Manager of Evertek in Everly tells KUOO news they plan to install fiber in Sioux Rapids and the surrounding rural area as part of an expansion of the company’s services…

“We’ve been in the business for a very long time. We provide the area with wireless today, but that technology isn’t quite as reliable as what fiber is. I’m from Sioux Rapids so it’s a town that I hold near and dear to my heart and I wanted to be able to bring this service to those guys. The city council reached out to us, go things rolling, and got us interested in looking at the project. Our board approved going into the town last year, so we started the works and planning and we received a NOFA 7 grant by the state to do the rural areas around Sioux Rapids.”

Dodd says the project will be done in phases…

“We actually have a pre-construction meeting on July 7th and that’s going to give me a little more detail. The open house, we’ll be talking to the public on July 13th, and then construction is supposed to start July 18th. We’re looking at a construction phase of several months, you know, depending upon weather and product availability, that can get stretched out a little bit. But the town is the first phase with the rural being the second phase of the project.”

The July 13th public informational meeting Dodd mentioned will be held at 5:00 pm at the American Legion in Sioux Rapids. He says some appetizers and refreshments will also be served.
