Federal Funding Awarded To Improve A Railroad Crossing In Clay County

January 10, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Washington, D.C.)– The state of Iowa will be receiving $15.3 million to upgrade several railroad crossings, including one in our area.

Clay county will receive $3.28 million to remove an unsafe Canadian Pacific-Kansas City Southern at-grade crossing, replacing it with a high-level grade separation. A press release doesn’t mention the exact location of that crossing.

The funding comes through the Department of Transportation’s Railroad Crossing Elimination program established through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Clay county and the Canadian Pacific-Kansas City Southern Railway will contribute 31.45 percent of the non-federal match.
