Fate Of A Historic Building In Terril Will Be Decided Next Month

May 09, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Terril)– The fate of a historic building in Terril will soon be decided. Mayor Julie Thiessen tells KUOO news the city council is hoping someone will buy it and fix it up for a business, otherwise she says it will likely be demolished…

“This building has been empty for quite some time. The building is on the corner of Main Street and on State Street. It’s the last original building in Terril. It originally was a bank. It has beautiful ornate qualities but it’s been empty for quite a few years. We would like to explore all options to save the building and we’d be willing to talk to anyone who is interested in developing a business in Terril. The city would be able to afford some incentives for someone to start a business but it would take some work to get it restored to a usable business. We would really like to save it if we can.”

Thiesen says the building has been a topic of discussion for sometime now…

“We had sent out a survey before and it came back, it was inconclusive. People really didn’t understand everything about it. We had people there last night and there was talk again. For two years now it’s been going back and forth, back and forth, yes, no, or whatever, but we have to make a decision by next month, so next month at the council meeting there will be a final decision.”

Anyone who may be interested in the building or wants more information should contact city hall at 712-853-6227 or any city council member.
