Extremely Heavy Rain Prompts Flood Warning For Little Sioux River

July 08, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Montgomery)– Extremely heavy rain that fell across portions of Dickinson county late Thursday night into early this (Fri.) morning has resulted in a flood warning being issued for the Little Sioux River near Milford. 2 to 4 inches of rain was reported, with 3.30 inches five miles west of Spirit Lake. There was a report of a little more than 4 inches in the city of Spirit Lake itself. That’s on top of heavy rain that fell across the area Sunday.

The National Weather Service says runoff from the heavy rainfall has resulted in significant rises in smaller tributaries to the upper portions of the Little Sioux River.

The flood warning is in effect until further notice.
