(Spirit Lake)– Expect to see additional law enforcement officers on the road in coming days. It’s part of a special enforcement campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. Authorities say the stepped up enforcement will begin Tuesday and will continue through Friday.
It’s in conjunction with the so-called 4-20 holiday. The numbers 420 have become synonymous with marijuana use, and officials say impaired driving will be a primary focus of the special enforcement campaign. They add that in 2018, 46 percent of drivers killed in crashes tested positive for drugs.
A number of local agencies will be participating in the campaign.
