September 01, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The execution of a search warrant earlier this week on an apartment in Spencer resulted in the arrest of a Spencer man on multiple drug charges.

Spencer police say the search was conducted Wednesday at 502 8th Street Southwest, apartment 5. It resulted in officers finding cocaine, marijuana, mushrooms, THC concentrates, prescription pills and a firearm.

42-year-old Leon Banks of Spencer was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Clay county jail. He was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, possession of LSD with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, felon in possession of a firearm, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $50,000. Authorities say if convicted, Banks could face enhanced penalties as the alleged violations happened within 1,000 feet of a public school.

Spencer police were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
