(Estherville)– Stoplights at several intersections along Central Avenue in Estherville will be included in a study authorized by the city council at their meeting Monday evening. City Administrator Penny Clayton says it could lead to the signals at 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th Streets being upgraded similar to what was done with those at the Woody’s Pizza and Sinclair intersections…
Clayton says the city could apply for grant funding to assist with upgrading the signals, should the council decide to do that once the study is complete. She says the stoplights involved in the study utilize components that are 1980’s vintage and have become obsolete.
The Bolten and Menk engineering firm will conduct the study at a cost of about $9,500.
In other business, the Estherville City Council Monday evening approved the 1st reading of a proposed ordinance regulating solid waste containers as the city will soon be transitioning to an automated trash collection system. Clayton says the city will be getting the new automated garbage truck later this month and that the solid waste containers are scheduled for delivery the week of January 6th. The council has not yet adopted a resolution setting the monthly collection fee for the container system, but Clayton says they’re looking at $16.50 per month.
