Estherville Woman Sentenced On Federal Firearms Charge

February 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– An Estherville woman has been sentenced to two and-a-half years in federal prison on a firearms charge.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 22-year-old Jodeci Holmes was sentenced last week after having pled guilty in September of last year to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

The charge stems from a traffic stop in Estherville April 1st, 2023. Prosecutors say Holmes was a passenger in the vehicle that was searched after police smelled marijuana. It resulted in officers finding a 9 millimeter pistol that belonged to Holmes, who had previously been convicted on marijuana charges, making it illegal for her to have a firearm.

In addition to the prison time, Holmes will also be required to serve three years of supervised probation once her prison time is served.

Holmes is in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.
