(Okoboji) Rescue and dive crews have recovered the body of an Estherville woman who drowned early this (Sunday) morning while swimming in East Lake Okoboji.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 911 call shortly before 2:00 a.m. stating that a person was missing from a boat on East Lake Okoboji. The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Dive Team, Spirit Lake Fire Department, DNR Lakes Patrol and several law enforcement agencies were called to the scene in the vicinity of the Hattie Elston Boat Ramp across from Kum and Go in Okoboji.
At about 6:45 a.m. crews conducting a shoreline search discovered the body of 26-year-old Jennifer Johnson of Estherville in an area west of Chalstrom Beach.
Authorities say Johnson had been swimming from a boat with others when she disappeared.
The boat, driven by Tim Denherder of Spirit Lake, is owned by Josh Kirschbaum…also of Spirit Lake.
In addition to the previously mentioned entities, others who assisted on the scene included Dickinson County Emergency Management, the Dickinson County Communications Center, Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford Police Department and the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics.
