(Estherville)-Estherville Sweet Corn Days are about to get underway. KUOO’s Becky Thoreosn has details:
The Estherville Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Sweet Corn Days August 4-7, with the Opening Ceremony and Burning of the Cobs Thursday evening at Library Square.
Executive Director Lexie Ruter says Friday is Family Day. “Friday has grown into a huge event. We have all sorts of stuff from golf tournaments to food vendors, we end the night with fireworks and a free movie will be in the park on Friday, and then, we’re right back at it Saturday morning. We’ve got the huge parade. We’re super excited about this year’s parade. We’ve got a drum line this year, all sorts of really awesome entries, and then, of course, we have free sweet corn. So, that’s served after the parade, and then the rest of the afternoon is just full of fun stuff like inflatables and food vendors, water fights, the Golf Ball Race, which was new last year, when you can win a bunch a money. We have a Disc Golf Throwdown, and then we end the night on Saturday with a street dance. We have live band Junk FM rocking us out from 9 pm to 1 am downtown.”
She adds that the celebration wraps up on Sunday. “Sunday’s our day of relaxation. We’ve got a breakfast, the community worship service, our river float, free swimming at the brand new Estherville Aquatic Center. So, if you haven’t checked out the new pool here in Estherville, Sunday is your chance to do so all day from 12 to 8, and then we also have a Ping Pong Tournament in the afternoon on Sunday.”
