(Estherville)-It’s time for Sweet Corn Days in Estherville. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Estherville Chamber will host the 26th Annual Sweet Corn Days August 1-4.
Executive Director Lexie Ruter says the festival kicks off Thursday evening. “We’ve got our Downtown Market, we’ve got a Bean Bag Tournament, Opening Ceremony and Burning of the Cobs with free s’mores and then a Kid’s Fishing Competition. Then we roll right into Friday. We’ve got a Golf Tournament during the day. Friday evening is Family Night.”
She adds that Saturday is the big day. “We’ve got a really awesome Merchant Market this year, one of the biggest we’ve ever had, tons of vendors. We’ve also got a ton of food vendors, and then at 10:30 we’ve got our Sweet Corn Days Parade kicking off, going down Highway 9 on Central Avenue and that goes from 18th Street to 4th Street. So, you can get a good view all along Central Avenue, it’s nice and long. Following the parade, we have free sweet corn downtown. 6,000 ears of cooked sweet corn that we give away for free. New this year, we have bubbles for the kids, hands-on bubble table with interactive bubbles, free balloon animals, live music playing, car show, we’ve got inflatables, and then we have a street dance, and this year we have live band Pop Rocks. We had them last year and they were a huge hit.”
Sweet Corn Days wraps up on Sunday with a river float and free swim.
