Estherville Residents Reminded About Proper Placement Of Garbage Receptacles

February 21, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– A new automated garbage collection system has been in place in Estherville several weeks now. And while some residents have gotten accustomed to the new system, others apparently have not. City officials say some of the canisters aren’t being set out properly. They put out a press release Thursday reminding residents that the directional arrows on the top of the lid of the container should be pointed toward the street or road. City officials say if the container is facing the wrong direction, it won’t be emptied. The containers also need to be placed five feet from any obstacles and within two feet of the curb.

Estherville residents are also reminded that bags outside of the containers won’t be picked up unless special arrangements have been made with city offices. They say there’s an additional fee for special pick-ups.
