(Estherville)– Earlier this week we reported on a former Estherville police officer charged in trial information filed by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. Now, we’re learning that a current officer of the department has also been charged. Officer Tyler Van Roekel faces 12 counts including unauthorized use of law enforcement data, nonfelonious misconduct in office, and ongoing criminal conduct. Estherville Police Chief Brent Shatto announced in a statement released this (Friday) morning that Van Roekel has been placed on administrative leave.
As we reported previously, former Estherville police officer Benjamin Scheevel was also charged by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. He faces 84 counts, including unauthorized access to and dissemination of criminal history data, ongoing criminal conduct, perjury, and tax evasion.
