Estherville Police Dept. Gears Up For Annual Citizen’s Academy

(Estherville)– The Estherville Police Department is gearing up for its annual citizen’s academy.

Brent Shatto, a Captain on the Estherville police force, says the academy will run from April 12th through May 17th. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.

Participants will be instructed on the various aspects of law enforcement, including investigations, SWAT, operating while intoxicated, patrol operations, firearms, and several other topics.

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and have no felony or domestic weapons charges or convictions pending, and have a good standing with law enforcement.

The academy is open to anyone who lives and works in the Estherville area and is free of charge.

Applications are available at the Estherville Police Department’s website at www.esthervillepd.net/. Applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, April 14th.

The Estherville Police Department has offered citizens academies since 2000. More than 60 adults and Estherville-Lincoln Central High School students have participated in the academy over the years.
