(Estherville)– Another local law enforcement agency is offering residents a firsthand opportunity to see what law enforcement is all about.
Estherville Police Chief Eric Milburn says his department will offer a citizen’s academy April 1st through May 20th. Milburn says the academy will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Students will be instructed on various aspects of law enforcement, including investigation, SWAT teams, operating while intoxicated, patrol operations and firearms…to name a few.
The Estherville Police Department has offered citizen’s academies since 2000, instructing over 60 men and women as well as students at Estherville Lincoln Central High School.
Applicants for the academy must be 16 years or older, with no felony or domestic charges or convictions pending and have a good standing with law enforcement. The academy is open to all people who live and work in the Estherville area. It’s free of charge. Academy graduates will receive a t-shirt.
Applications are available at the Estherville Police Department or on-line at the department’s website. Applications must be returned no later than Friday, March 26th.
