Estherville man in custody on drug charges

November 22, 2014

Estherville –

An Estherville man is in custody after the Estherville Police Department received a tip regarding 41 year old Howard Reed Wright. Wright was wanted on 3 felony drug charges filed two weeks ago by the Estherville PD.
The information was that Wright and his juvenile girlfriend were going to be meeting, either by Wright returning to Estherville, or the juvenile girlfriend going to Kansas City, where Wright had apparently been hiding out.

On Thursday, Officers received an anonymous phone call stating that Wright was at a residence in Estherville with the female juvenile. Officers went to the residence, and although nobody answered the door, Officers could hear activity in the home. Ultimately the juvenile answered the door, but refused to allow entrance to the Officers.

Officers made contact with the homeowner who instructed the female to allow entrance, and the homeowner gave permission for law enforcement to enter and search the residence.

Wright was located hiding in a closet with furniture piled in front of the door.

Wright was arrested on the outstanding felony drug warrants, and remains in the Emmet County jail under a $50,000 bond.

The female juvenile was charged with harboring a fugitive and was taken into custody and transported to Cherokee Youth Detention Center.
