Estherville Crash Lands Man In Jail On Multiple Charges

December 13, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– A single vehicle crash this past Saturday evening in the 900 block of West Central Avenue in Estherville has led to multiple charges being filed against the driver.

Estherville police say the driver, Christopher Couts, didn’t comply with requests from rescue workers to stay in the vehicle and that he instead got out on his own. He was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Upon investigating officers discovered the vehicle Couts had been driving had been stolen out of North Dakota and that Couts didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

Couts was charged with theft in the 2nd degree, interference with official acts, failure to have a valid driver’s license, failure to show proof of financial responsibility…accident related, and failure to maintain control. He’s being held in the Emmet county jail on a $5,000.

Police say the case is still under investigation and that additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of alcohol and drug tests.
