(Estherville)-Estherville residents will have an opportunity to d osome spring cleaning with a city-wide clean-up event coming up in May.
City Administrator Penny Clayton says it will be going on May 6-10.
“If you remember a few years ago we switched from every 3 to 5 years, we switched it to being annually, just trying to see if we can keep our community cleaner and just create a habit where it doesn’t become this overarching event that just kind of consumes our entire community for a week.”
She says that some items will still require the purchase of tags for disposal.
“You can purchase stickers for appliances, they’re $20 a piece. You can purchase stickers for e waste, things like TVs, printers, computers because we pay a fee to dispose of those, or you can just put random junk out at the curb and we will take it away. It’s on your regular garbage day that particular week.”
Things like tires, batteries and other hazardous items as well as lumber and shingles will not be picked up.
City officials say they want to get the word out now so residents can start planning. They’re requesting items not be placed at the curb until a couple of days before the scheduled pick up days in May.
