(Estherville)– Some stoplights at the intersection of North 6th Street and 2nd Avenue North in Estherville could be on their way out. City Administrator Penny Clayton says an engineer’s evaluation of the city’s traffic signals indicated they are no longer warranted. In place of the stoplights, Clayton says stop signs would be put up for traffic on 2nd Avenue North.
The council Monday evening approved the 1st reading of an ordinance that would remove the stoplights, but stopped short of waiving the 2nd and 3rd readings and granting final approval as not enough council members were present to do that. The matter will come back to the council at their next regular meeting.
The council also approved the 1st reading of an ordinance to replace the stoplights with the stop signs, but that, too, will need to come back for additional consideration and adoption.
