Estherville City Council Sets Stage For Public Hearing On Proposed Revision To Zoning Ordinance

January 20, 2026

(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday evening unanimously approved a change in wording in a portion of the city’s zoning code. Zoning Administrator Dane Ross told the council it pertains to zoning for medical type facilities…

“So in the pre 2017 Zoning Code hospital services was a permitted use in R3 which is what the hospital is currently zoned, but I believe it was an oversight during the recodification that it was not allowed but it was discussed it would make sense to also have medical clinics and professional offices like the dentist across the street be allowed in R3 as well, and so this zoning text change would remove medical clinics and offices from a conditional use and make it a permitted use by right as a commercial use and also add hospital services back to a commercial uses right.”

A public hearing on the revision will be held at the council’s next regular meeting.
