Estherville City Council Approves Neighborhood Facade Grants

December 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday approved 12 applications for the latest round of funding through the city’s Neighborhood Facade Grant program. City Administrator Penny Clayton says a total of 20 applications were received by Excel Estherville, which oversees the program…

“We solicited for applications for the Neighborhood Facade Grant Program beginning in about October. Those were due November 15th. We did receive a total of 20 applications for various projects. We did, we met as an Excel oversight committee on Tuesday of last week to review all of those applications and to make recommendations to the city council on which ones they believe should be approved.”

While 12 applications were approved, Clayton says they had budgeted for 10. She says they’ll be able to make up the $6,000 overage by using Hotel/Motel tax revenue. It was also pointed out that some projects approved in a previous funding cycle likely won’t get completed and that some of the funds from those could also offset the overage.

The program is intended as an incentive for Estherville residents looking to spruce up the exterior of their home.
