(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday adopted an ordinance making it illegal to put snow on city streets or rights-of-way. The new law does not affect residents or businesses in the downtown area. City officials say the issue of snow being blown or pushed onto streets after plows have already gone by has been a growing problem in Estherville, and that until now there was nothing on the books to make it illegal.
The council also Monday approved a request from Estherville Foods to temporarily close a portion of North 4th Street during the company’s expansion project. That street is already being used as a detour for the Highway 4 North project. The detour will be shifted onto some other streets in the same area.
A spokesman for Estherville Foods says they plan to build a new office area onto the plant, with the existing space being converted for some automation equipment they plan to add to their operations. The work is expected to continue through the end of the year.
