Estherville Chamber To Hold Annual Fright Hike At Fort Defiance

October 17, 2025

(Estherville)– The Estherville Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual Fright Hike on Saturday (Oct. 18th). Lexi Ruter, Executive Director of the Estherville Chamber of Commerce, says the evening will start out with a gentle scare…

“From 6 to 7pm is our lights on hour which is kind of our more younger kid, maybe more timid kid, less scary hour. Its during dusk so it’s a little bit easier to see what’s going on, little bit less scary out there in the woods and if any child is scared during that 6 to 7 period of time the actors will kind of, you know back off, be a little more friendly, let them know everything is ok.”

Ruter says then you can get the full fright experience…

“So 7:00 to 9:30 come out, its pitch black out in the woods. It’s definitely scary. We’ll have people, you never know who’s waiting for you and so it will be a really good time slot. It’s a nice haunted hike out in the woods.”

Ruter also says they are looking forward to a great event…

“The weather’s going to be wonderful. Grab a sweatshirt cause it will cool off but it’s going to be a really nice weekend. We’re excited out there in Fort Defiance and we hope to see everybody come out.”

The Fright Hike will be at Fort Defiance State park on Saturday. They have the lights on hour from 6 to 7 and then from 7:00 to 9:30 you can get the full fright experience. Admission is just $10 and they take cash or credit cards. Go to estherville.org for more information.
