Estherville Campground Project Awarded Grant

December 16, 2025

(Estherville)– Plans by the city of Estherville to build a new campground are getting a financial boost.

The city council Monday evening approved acceptance of a $250,000 grant for the project from the Iowa DNR’s Land and Water Conservation Fund. City Administrator Penny Clayton says it’s part of the city’s river recreation enhancement project…

“The project is 15 full hook up spaces on 2.7 acres of city owned property that is just to the west of the city’s electric distribution tin shed. The project also includes a shower house, a playground area, a dump station, and then a carry down water access to the river. The total estimated project is about $654,300. We are in the process of applying for a Community Attraction and Tourism Grant to assist with some of that funding. The remaining funds will come from a portion of the lose local option sales tax funds that we set aside for the river recreation project.”

Clayton added they’ll be embarking on a community fundraising campaign for the project as well, as a local funding commitment is needed for the Community Attraction and Tourism Grant application.
