(Estherville)– A subsequent investigation into a report of a burglary in progress at an Estherville retail store has resulted in charges against four people.
Estherville police say it all started shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday when they received a report of a burglary in progress at the ALCO Store. Officers spotted four male subjects when they arrived at the scene. Police say the four tried to get away on foot. Officers managed to take one into custody, while observing the other three run into a nearby mobile home park.
Estherville police, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 conducted a search of the area. The suspects were taken into custody and were transported to the Emmet County Law Enforcement Center.
Officers gathered evidence indicating the suspects tried to gain entry into the store through more than one door.
Police then obtained a search warrant for a mobile home at lot 55 at 2302 3rd Avenue South in Estherville. Officers gathered additional evidence at that location.
Two male juveniles, ages 15 and 17, along with 20-year-old Joel Espinoza of Estherville, were charged with attempted burglary.
A 13-year-old juvenile was also arrested and charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.
All three juveniles were referred to juvenile court and were transferred to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee. Espinoza was booked into the Emmet county jail.
