(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake community Schools are getting some special recognition from the U.S. Environmental Proction Agency for on-site generation of green power.
The school district has been named a recipient of the agency’s Green Power Partnership Awards highlighting organizations’ use of green power across various industry sectors. The Spirit Lake Community School District was cited among the nation’s to 20 K-12 schools for its use of on-site wind power.
The Spirit Lake School District generates a majority of its power from two onsite wind turbines. In addition, the high school was converted recently to a geo-thermal heating and cooling system.
The EPA co-sponsors the Green Power Leadership Awards in conjunction with the Center for Resource Solutions. The awards recognize the leading actions of organizations, programs and individuals that significantly advance the development of green power energy sources. The agency accepts nominations for the awards.
