Entries Now Being Accepted For U Of O Winter Games Chili Cook-Off

December 16, 2025

(Arnolds Park)– Entries are now being accepted for the University of Okoboji Winter Games Chili Cook-Off sponsored by Hinn Real Estate. Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber CEO and President Blain Andera…

“Easiest way to do it, Steve, is just to go to uofowintergames.com. Click the events tab and you can register right online, click the Chili Cook-Off entry there. We ask that people make 20 gallons of chili. Of course if we’ve got someone that can only do 10 or something like that, we’ll work with you on that, but we certainly don’t want to run out early. We have 1,500 to 1,800 people come to the Chili Cook-Off every year, so.”

Due to space constraints the competition will be limited to 27 teams. Entries need to be turned into the Chamber Office no later than Friday, January 9th.

Andera says bragging rights will be on the line again this year in three different categories…

“Overall Best Chili, Best Non-Profit, and Best Booth. This year the theme is Lights, Camera, Action, we’re rolling out the red carpet to showcase the favorite movie this year. Whatever the business’ favorite movie is they can decorate their booth in that fashion this year.”

The winner in each division will be announced during the Burning of the Greens and Fireworks Extravaganza sponsored by Bank Midwest. Mugs for the Chili Cook Off are also now available…

“Right now we have them at the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber Office and we have them available at The Three Sons. Starting next week, then, they’ll be available at Fareway and Hy-Vee in Spirit Lake as well.”

Andera adds the purchase of a $10 mug allows event goers to bypass the long lines the evening of the Chili Cook-Off, which is Friday, January 23rd from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Dickinson County Expo Building in Spirit Lake.
