November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Emmetsburg police are investigating burglaries that occurred either late Wednesday night or early Thursday at several restaurants.

The first report came in around 6:19 a.m. when officers were called to the Dairy Queen. Management reported a door had been forced open and a safe in the office area had been broken into. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. Damage to the door was estimated at $1,500. It’s believed the incident took place sometime after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

As officers were investigating that burglary, they were called to a report of an attempted burglary at the A & W Restaurant where someone had tried unsuccessfully to pry open a door. Damage to the door and frame was estimated at $100.

Emmetsburg police then responded to a call to Pizza Hut where a door had been forced open and entry made to the building. A cash drawer was forced open and a safe in the office area had been broken into, but management reported no money had been taken. Damage to the cash drawer was estimated at $500; damage to the door was put at $1,000.

The incidents remain under investigation.
