Emmet County Sheriff’s Office Reports Busy STEP

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says the latest Special Traffic Enforcement Project was a busy one for that agency.

Sheriff Mike Martens says deputies issued 12 citations for speeding, 8 for no proof of insurance, 2 for driving under suspension, 2 for operating without registration, 2 for driving without a driver’s license, 1 for failing to file security risk insurance, 1 for driving while barred, and 1 for eluding a law enforcement vehicle. In addition, Martens says deputies issued 36 warnings for speeding, 1 for driving without headlamps and five for equipment violations.

Martens says there are two advantages to participate in the program. The first, he says, is officers can discourage unsafe driving while making the community safety. The second, he says, is that it makes the office eligible for grants to fund equipment purchases.

The latest STEP was conducted August 25th through September 7th.
