Emmet County Motorcycle Pursuit Lands Man In Jail

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A Ruthven man faces multiple charges in connection with a motorcycle pursuit Monday evening in Emmet county.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 10:20 p.m. when it received a report from the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office of a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound into Emmet county, and that the driver had a suspended license.

Emmet county deputies arrived on the scene and located the motorcycle traveling north on Highway Four north of Wallingford. The driver then sped up to try to elude authorities. The pursuit continued northbound on Highway Four. A squad car was positioned in the intersection of Highway Four and south 1st Street to try to block the motorcycle. The driver then slowed and stopped just before making contact with the squad car.

The driver of the motorcycle, 25-year-old Tracy McCallum of Ruthven, was taken into custody and was transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for treatment of minor injuries.

McCallum was then arrested on charges of speeding—130 mph in a 55 mph zone; failure to prove security against liability; failure to file SR-22 insurance; driving under suspension and eluding a law enforcement vehicle.

McCallum was booked into the Emmet county jail. He’s being held on $6,500 cash or surety bond.

Damage to the squad car was estimated at $50; no damage was reported to the motorcycle.
