(Estherville)—Multiple injuries were reported in a single-vehicle crash that took place this past Sunday in Emmet county, but wasn’t reported to authorities until almost 24 hours after the fact.
The Iowa State Patrol says 22-year-old Michael Whitesell of Spirit Lake was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on 510th Avenue in Emmet county when he lost control. The vehicle left the road and rolled onto its top, winding up in a creek. Those who were in the vehicle reported that once they got out, they called a friend to pick them up. Troopers say Whitesell along with 20-year-old Nathan Kropf, 24-year-old Wesley Leach, a 17-year-old female juvenile, 24-year-old Kyle Solberg and 24-year-old Caleb McConnell all sustained minor injuries from bumping their heads, along with cuts from broken glass.
Whitesell was cited with violation of conditions of a restricted license, failure to maintain control and failure to report a personal injury accident.
$5,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicle.
Authorities aren’t saying if alcohol was a factor, but they do say that several cans of beer…both open and unopen…were found at the crash scene and in the trunk of the vehicle.
