(Estherville)—A single vehicle crash early Wednesday resulted in minor injuries to three people and sent two to jail.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report around 6:30 a.m. of a vehicle parked in a state wildlife area two miles west of Estherville north of 170th Street. Upon arriving on the scene a deputy determined the vehicle had been involved in a collision that had occurred about six hours earlier, and that the occupants had left the scene.
Upon further investigation, it was determined the vehicle had been northbound on 350th Avenue when the driver failed to stop for a stop sign at an intersection. It continued northbound through a T-intersection where it left the road and vaulted 100 feet through the air before landing in a marsh where it then struck a tree and came to rest.
Three passengers in the vehicle, 27-year-old Aston Gellert, and 19-year-old John Matos…both of Estherville…and 22-year-old Jessica Brashear of Emmetsburg all sustained minor injuries.
The driver, 27-year-old Chad Ukasick of Estherville, was arrested on charges of a suspended license, failure to stop for a stop sign, failure to maintain control, reckless driving, speeding, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Ukasick was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from Emmet county for contempt of court.
Matos was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. Both Ukasick and Matos have been released from jail on bond.
Damage to the 2004 Audi was estimated at $10,000.
