Election Day Arrives

November 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Election Day has arrived. While most of the attention is focused on the national level, there are several races locally we will be closely following as results come in this (Tues.) evening.

In Dickinson county, there are contested races for two seats on the Board of Supervisors. In district three, Steve Dullard is challenging incumbent Jeff Thee. Dullard defeated Thee in June’s Republican primary. Thee is running as a write-in candidate in today’s (Tues.) election. In district 5, Incumbent Tim Fairchild is being challenged by Levi Marquart. Wind turbines and county finances are among the key issues in those races.

We are also keeping a close eye on a bond issue in the Okoboji Community School District. Voters are being asked to approve a $69 million measure to build a new elementary school and to build an addition and make some renovations to the high school. The measure must be approved by at least 60 percent of those who vote in order for it to pass, under Iowa law.

Election officials remind those planning to vote on Tuesday that you must do so at your designated polling site. Polls are open from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm. KUOO news will pass along results as they come in after the polls close.
