Education Programs Available to Minnesota Farmers in the New Year.

December 12, 2025

2026 will be here before you know it and Liz Stahl, Extension Educator with the University of MN Extension Regional Office in Worthington, says now is the time to plan to attend educational events which the first ones will be covering research education.

We do offer discounts for registration. Now, if you do that before the end of the year, but there are research updates for ag professionals. Those are in person meetings. We’ve got several locations throughout the state, but the closest one, probably for this area for most people, would be at the Lamberton location. That’ll be on January fifteenth at the Southwest Research and Outreach Center. And again, it’s a really nice opportunity to hear directly from the researchers.

There is a registration fee for this program but if you sign up before the end of the year you do get a discount. Another program that will start in January is the Strategic Farming, Let’s Talks Crops and Stahl talks about that program.

That here on on January seventh. That’ll be every Wednesday morning through the end of March. But again, we just encourage people to get signed up for that. So you get the reminders of the different programs now that one is online. And that does again run every Wednesday morning from nine to ten o’clock. This one, there is no cost to register thanks to sponsorship from the Minnesota Corn Research and Promotion Council and the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council. You just need to register one time for the whole series and again you’ll get reminders then when the sessions are occurring.”

Stahl also wants to remind people that the private pesticide applicator certification workshops will be held at the beginning of the year.

Anybody who applies a restricted use pesticide on land that they’re farming. You know, if you want to apply restricted use pesticide, you have to be certified at the time of application. Um, those workshops and all the recertification options for twenty twenty six, those will start out here after the beginning of the year. Um, you should be getting a flyer in the mail within a few weeks that outlines kind of all the different options that you have and when the workshops are coming.”

If you need more information on any of these programs you can find it on their website at z.umn.edu or call the extension office at 507-372-3900
