(Emmetsburg)– An Emmetsburg man has been charged for allegedly dumping garbage into the Des Moines River.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says 67-year-old Eric Smith was charged with illegal dumping of solid waste, punishable by a fine of up to 500-dollars.
Deputies say it stems from a complaint they received shortly after 11:00 a.m. Saturday of garbage being dumped into the Des Moines River off the Burns Bridge on Bridge Road.
Smith was released on citation to appear in court at a later date.
