(Okoboji)– The East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation holds its annual meeting this Saturday, June 3rd, at the Maser Monarch Lodge just west of the Dickinson County Nature Center. The organization’s President, Bill Maas, says the keynote speaker this year will be Mike Hawkins, a fisheries biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources…
“He is probably almost becoming the resident expert on aquatic invasive species in the midwest. He has taught us a lot during the past few years and he’s here to share even more with us now.”
Maas says the East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation centers its attention on protecting the lower chain of lakes in the Iowa Great Lakes system…
“We consider the East Okoboji lakes to be a chain of lakes. We have East Okoboji, Upper Gar, Minnewashta, Lower Gar. Our membership consists of mainly those people although we do get a lot of outside contributions. I guess you can say that we’ve been in the heart of a lot of different things. Our goal is to make the lakes region better overall but focusing more on the East Okoboji side of things. Our membership numbers almost 400. We are actually probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest organization, protective associations, in the area.”
Maas says Saturday’s meeting is open to everyone interested, especially those who are thinking about becoming members of the East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation…
“And I guess if you aren’t a member and you’re thinking about it, that would be a good time to come to the Maser Monarch Lodge and just see what we’re about.
Saturday’s event begins at 8:30 am with coffee and rolls being served, with the annual meeting beginning at 9:00 am.
