DOT Commissioners Meet In Okoboji

(Okoboji)– One of the worst stretches of Highway in Iowa didn’t go unnoticed by D.O.T commissioners during their meeting Monday and Tuesday in Okoboji. Commission Vice Chair Charisse Yanney…(click here for comment from Yanney.)

Commissioners today (Tues.) heard public input from various delegations throughout northwest Iowa. The top call among them: finish four-laning Highway 20. Yanney says it’s also a priority for the commission. But she says they have a difficult balancing act to do, trying to decide what projects should take a priority based on the available amount of funding…especially from the federal level…(click here for comment from Yanney.)

The meeting in Okoboji was one of four D.O.T commissioners have been holding around the state this year. Yanney says it gives them a chance to get up close and personal with people in other parts of the state and to see for themselves what the issues are…(click here for comment from Yanney.)

The commission was to consider a request from the city of Spirit Lake for a RISE, or Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy Grant for a road project at a new industrial park to be developed on the city’s east side. However city officials withdrew the request at the last minute in order to make some revisions to it. The commission will consider it at their November meeting instead.
