DNR Urges Boaters To Use Extra Caution Over Extended 4th Of July Holiday Period

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is putting out a reminder for those planning to be on the lakes over the upcoming 4th of July holiday period to use extreme caution. Jeff Morrison, a DNR Conservation Officer, says boaters need to make sure they have the necessary life jackets and fire extinguishers on board, and make sure their equipment is working properly before hitting the water. He says making sure the lights are in working order is extremely important if you’re going to be out after dark…(click here for comment from Morrison.).

And just as drinking and driving a vehicle on the road doesn’t mix, that’s also the case with drinking and boating…(click here for comment from Morrison.).

And Morrison reminds everyone that the blood alcohol concentration level for drunk boating is the same as it is for drunk driving…(click here for comment from Morrison.).

Morrison says the DNR Lakes Patrol will have additional officers on the Iowa Great Lakes over the extended 4th of July holiday period, beginning this weekend.
