(Spencer)– Trout will be released in five locations across Iowa next month. One of those is Scharnberg Pond in Spencer. The release there is scheduled for 12:30 pm January 21st.
The state Department of Natural Resources says they’ll be stocking areas that would not support the fish during warmer months.
DNR officials say the program is funded by revenue from the trout fee.
Anglers will need a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10.
Children age 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult but must limit their catch to one daily limit. They can buy a trout fee which will allow them to catch their own limit.
Officials say the stocking events are dependent upon favorable weather and ice conditions.
