(Des Moines)– Northwest Iowans will have a first-hand opportunity to sound off on changes to water quality standard rules being proposed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
As we reported previously, the rules are being implemented as part of an antidegradation policy required under Iowa law. It will set minimum requirements for the state to conserve, maintain and protect water quality and existing uses of Iowa’s waterbodies.
Nine public hearings will be held around the state later this month and next.
Locally, a public hearing will be held at 10:00 a.m. December 17th at the Storm Lake Public Library.
A hearing will also be held at 7:00 p.m. January 8th at the Waitt Building at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory.
Comments can also be submitted in writing to Adam Scnieders, Iowa DNR, 502 East 9th Street, Des Moines…50319. Comments will be accepted until January 9th, 2009.
More information is available at the DNR’s website.
