(Undated)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will once again be conducting prescribed burns this spring at several wildlife management areas. They include the Ingham Unit in Emmet county, as well as several complexes in Kossuth and Palo Alto counties. The DNR will also assist the Emmet County Conservation Board with prescribed burns at the Wolden Recreation Area, near the Ingham-High Wetland complex.
The burns are used to improve wildlife habitat and to control invasive plant species. They will be conducted, depending upon the weather, from mid-March through mid-May.
Areas scheduled for prescribed burns are Anderson Prairie, Birge Lake, Burr Oak Lake, Eagle Lake, East Swan Lake, Ingham-High Wetland Complex, Iowa Lake, Iowa Lake Marsh, Twelve Mile Lake, West Swan Lake and 4 Mile Lake in Emmet County; Seneca Access, in Kossuth County; and West Fork Wildlife Area, in Palo Alto County.
