(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has set August 22nd as the date for an open house to share plans and answer questions about improvements being proposed for the campground at Gull Point State Park on West Lake Okoboji. The open house will run from 6:30 until 8:30 pm that evening in the lodge at Gull Point.
As we reported Thursday, the plans include the addition and expansion of electrical systems and full hook-up capabilities with more spacious campsites. Jacob Schaben, Northwest Iowa District Supervisor for the DNR’s State Park, Forests and Preserves Bureau told KUOO news it likely reduce the number of sites by 30 to 40 from about 110 or so that are currently there.
The project would also include an upgraded restroom, ADA accessibility, and some paving. Trees that are diseased, decayed or could be negatively impacted by construction would be removed as part of the project.
The work is expected to begin in the spring of 2024 and be completed about a year later, in the spring of 2025.
