(Okoboji)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is scheduled to hold a meeting locally Wednesday evening (Feb. 22nd) to talk about the recently completed hunting seasons. Chris La Rue, Wildlife Biologist with the DNR, says they’ll also be gathering input on some proposed revisions to rules and regulations…
“There are a few proposed changes to 2023-’24 deer season. That’s pretty normal, of course, with some counting adjustments and distribution of antlerless license quotas across the state. In addition, there are a couple of proposed changes, too, for the trapping and fur bearer season as well.”
La Rue says the meeting Wednesday evening is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Maser Monarch Lodge adjacent to the Dickinson County Nature Center. He says it more than likely won’t be rescheduled in the event the winter storm that’s threatening the region causes it to be called off…
“The presentation and stuff will be posted to the Iowa DNR’s web page and if folks can’t make the meeting or if they want to make a comment, they can submit those to wildlife@dnr.ia.gov or contact us locally and of course we’ll just have to see how the weather plays out here, and you know, maybe it will shift and we’ll be able to still have the meeting. But if not, due to the tight scheduling that they have for things I don’t know that we’d be able to re-schedule.”
The proposed rule changes will be presented to the Natural Resource Commission during a regular public meeting for consideration and additional public comment.
