(Spirit Lake)– Snowmobile operators are being reminded of a couple of law changes that went into effect this season. Jeff Morrison, a Conservation Officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says ALL operators are now required to have a trail permit sticker on their machine…(click here for comment.) “In the past years it was just the non-residents that had to have that trail pass. This year, they’ve implemented it also for residents. So everybody’s going to have to have two pieces of, two decals on their machine: the registration decal as well as the trail pass decal.”
Morrison says both decals must be affixed to the headlight or windshield of the sled.
He says another law change is this:…(click here for comment.) “The other thing that’s changed for snowmobiles is that if they’re operated on any roadway, the trails, they have to now have proof of insurance. Just like you would carry in your car, you have to have that on your snowmobile also.”
Morrison also reminds snowmobile owners that registration on the machines came due the first of the year. He says you need to make sure you have the 2013 registration sticker on your sled before operating it.
