DNR Director Hears Numerous Concerns

(Spirit Lake)– High levels of E-coli bacteria, invasive species, staffing and funding were concerns greeted the head of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources during a visit today in the Iowa Great Lakes.

Roger Lande spent part of his Saturday addressing concerns at a joint meeting of several lakes area protective associations. While the concerns are great, especially with the threat invasive species pose, Lande was the first to admit he can’t give a whole lot of assurance right now that efforts to keep out the most serious like zebra mussels will be successful…Click here to hear mp3 file

When it comes to Lake Patrol staffing, Lande is confident the numbers will be better at the start of next season than what they were at the start of the present one.
