DNR Clarifies Changes Proposed For Certain Wildlife Management Areas

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are clarifying information that went out regarding changes being proposed to some wildlife refuges in various parts of the state.

Even though information that details proposed changes mentions three areas in Dickinson county, Chris LaRue, Iowa Great Lakes Wildlife Biologist for the DNR, tells KUOO news none of those areas would be affected as they’re all wildlife management areas.

The information that went out referenced three areas in Dickinson county, all of which are currently Wildlife Management Areas: Henderson Woods, the Spring Run-Packmeyer Marsh Wildlife Management Area; and the Jemmerson Slough complex.

LaRue says atleast a portion of Jemmerson Slough may be proposed as a waterfowl refuge sometime in the future. In that event, LaRue says a public hearing would be held this summer to determine the size of the refuge.
