(Des Moines)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say they’ve been getting an influx of calls lately from lakefront property owners in the Iowa Great Lakes regarding dead Canada geese on their shoreline. She adds that while the number of Canada geese impacted by the virus was significant, it’s impact on the bald eagle population has been minimal, even though they’ve been seen feeding on the carcasses…

Large numbers of dead birds in concentrated areas should be reported by calling the DNR at 712-336-1485, 712-330-4543 or by email at Chris.LaRue@dnr.iowa.gov. The locations will be evaluated and coordination of carcass collection will be made if needed.
